ne of our problems are we don't have many ways to cope with anything. Atleast it means we are getting the signal that something needs to happen, but unfortunatly we are using a skill that is unhealthy, causes bad feelings, guilt, embaressment, scars, infections, ruins your clothes, causes Anemia and etc, so I thought I would try and put down some ways you could try to use to cope sometimes it takes trying things a few times before it helps, because we are so use to the self harm but.....here we go..
Ok so, coping skills......
*Go for a walk. - get your frustration out in the walk
*Splash cold water on your face or get in a cold shower until you feel different, kinda calm. - it causes a chemical reaction in your brain with the same chemicals that are released when you cut.-
*Draw - You could draw something symbolic that lets what's bothering you out.
*Call a friend - and possibly let them know what it bothering you and vent.
*Get a note book and slash it - if you do this it might let out the frustration and all that out of your system that you do when cutting.
*Get a ice cube and squeeze it - it will start to burn and sting....
*Get some rubber bands - keep some on your wrist, and when you feel like cutting, snap them on your arm or wrist.
*Beat a pillow or cousion - this allows all the rage and anger and frustration out, beat it till you can't anymore.
*Watch TV, distraction until this mood passes.
*Internet/Support Forum - you can go and have a big rant. And talk to friends...
*Hot water - I have been told recently by a friend that if you hold your hand under the hot water it will cause some pain and you can replace that with cutting if you have to.
*Keep Busy - maybe clean your house or do something that you've been avoiding or something that needs done, let all that negativity out on what you are doing, and distraction.. til the mood passes.
*Visit a friend - You could always visit and friend and tell them what's up and they can talk with you and take ya around with them.. Another distraction but also support.
*Running - If you like jogging or running then just take out run the fastest, hardest you ever had, and that'll get that negitive energy out! (you won't have any kinda energy jk lol)
*Poetry - Those of you who write poetry can try and get all that out in your poems...
*Journaling - Those of you who journal can journal, let it all out!
*Chocolate - It will release chemicals in your brain that make you happy, or feel better..
And really there are so many things, if anyone else has anything they'd like to share, like thins that have worked for them or things that have worked for others, that would be fine and much needed.
These skills are from a good friend of mine and another forum, i am on.

Other things I have found that worked are..
-deep breathing techniques,
-visualisation (somewhwere hot and sunny )
-and, know i sound mad, but..I made a little phrase, something like *i'm stronger than this. I dont need to do this* to repeat to myself when i had to urge to s/h. _________________ If leaves were smiles I'd send you a tree...
